I'm a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory working at the intersection of AI and biology. I lead AI/ML for KBase, the DOE Systems Biology Knowledgebase, where I'm building agentic systems that turn microbial "omics" data into scientific insight — AI agents that can construct and run reproducible genome-analysis workflows, not just answer questions.
Before the agents, I spent two decades in comparative and functional genomics. I'm a co-author of FastTree (phylogenetic trees for large alignments) and the founding KBase papers.

Building the tools I wish science already had.
